New home for balwadis

We're trying something new at Mumbai Smiles.

Over the past few months, we have opened 25 new balwadis in and around Andheri (E) as part of our effort to engage more closely with the communities in this area. We are keen that these balwadis maintain high standards because we want the kids in these centres to have access to quality and excellence. The learning that begins here, we believe, will drive what happens in the future.

And that is why, we have decided to relocate two of the new balwadis to our office building in Marol, Andheri (E). While the Mumbai Smiles offices extend over the 4th, 5th and 6th floors of the building, we will open the centres on the first and second floors, within the next couple of weeks. We want to give the kids a good, clean environment to be in, something that is difficult to provide within the slums they live in.

The two balwadis that are being shifted are the ones closest to our Marol office, so that the kids, teachers and helpers are not taken too far from their homes and communities. And we think that coming every day to a professional, airy, hygienic and bright centre will have a good impact on everyone.

We hope to turn these two centres into models of our work, that we will then replicate with all the balwadis. The new centres will soon be ready and we'll keep you posted about our progress in the days to come
