We are all born free and equal in dignity

The all-India strike against the hike in fuel prices threw most of the country off schedule yesterday. With the week effectively starting from today for most of us, we hope your routines are back to normal :)
Now, for some news from Spain:
Last week, Mumbai Smiles held the first of a series of lectures on Human Rights and Child Rights at the Library Claret in Barcelona, Spain, (mentioned earlier in this blogpost) as part of our efforts to achieve Goal 8 of the Millennium Development Goals, which is global partnership for development).

The conference was managed by one of our teams of volunteers and by Núria Curós, head of the public relations department, who briefly introduced our organization and the projects being carried out in Mumbai.

The volunteers, seen in the following images, spoke on issues of human rights, the application of Indian laws, examples of the violation of fundamental rights such as housing, education, health and nutrition, as well as child rights and the fact that many children don't have access to basic education.

The event ended with Alexandra Haglund, Executive Director of Spain, Mumbai Smiles, highlighting the wonderful work done by volunteers and attendees. She commented that the purpose of the conference -- apart from promoting Universal Human Rights and Child Rights -- was to create synergies and alliances with other entities to join forces and jointly safeguard the causes for which we fight and work every day.

A big thanks to everyone for their hard work and enthusiasm!
