Visit to Nandurbar - part 1

Last week, the Future Smiles team made a visit to Nandurbar district, which is about 300 km from Mumbai. The reason for the visit was to meet some of the kids who used to be at Karuna orphanage, but are now back in the villages with their families, and talk to them about further education and career prospects. The meeting was along the line of the discussion that the team had with the Yashodhan school students a few weeks ago.

The team met with nine children and their family members in the two-day trip. While they all live in a cluster of villages in Nandurbar district, they had gathered in the village of Shirpur for the meeting.

Here you can see counsellor Chandrakant talking to the group. He asked each student for information on their family background, education, marks and future plans.

The students and family members also discussed their problems and needs, such as the lack of proper infrastructure, opportunities and funds to pursue further education.

Based on the information and feedback that everyone gave them, the Future Smiles team will now formulate a programme that will support the students in the efforts to get a quality education.

Tomorrow, we will introduce you to the students and tell you a little bit about them...
